Happy Thanksgiving Lions

Wishing all of our Loughborough Public School students, families, and community members a wonderful Thanksgiving! We are so thankful for the kindness, support, and Lion Pride that make our school community such a special place.

We hope all our Lions are enjoying a safe, relaxing, and happy Thanksgiving weekend!

2026 Terry Fox School Run

2026TFF School Run Banner

Last Monday, LPS celebrated the 46th anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope. Thank you to everyone who donated online, brought in a “Toonie for Terry,” purchased a t-shirt, shared our online fundraising link, volunteered their time, or participated in our run/walk.

A special thank you goes to the Grade 8 students in Mr. Ross’s and Mr. Hull’s classes for leading our assembly, as well as the many junior and intermediate students who helped sort and deliver t-shirts, promote our fundraiser, and set up and clean up our Terry Fox School Run event.

The success of this event was truly a team effort. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a meaningful and successful day!

We kicked off this year’s Terry Fox campaign with a goal of raising $5,700 - the equivalent of $300 per class (which became approximately $285 per class after our school reorganization). With more than a week still remaining before our run/walk, we surpassed our fundraising goal, and the total just kept climbing!

We are incredibly proud to announce our final fundraising total, the highest amount LPS has ever raised in our 21 years of participating in the Terry Fox School Run:

$8,441!

For the past three years, homeroom classes have enjoyed a friendly competition to see who can raise the most funds. Many teachers added their own fundraising challenges and rewards to motivate students. This year, Mr. Rowley’s Grade 2 class raised more than $500, earning Mr. Rowley a brand-new 90s-inspired punk hairstyle complete with bleached blond and teal hair!

Throughout the campaign, Ms. Jamieson/Ms. Groenwegen’s, Ms. Hulton’s, and Ms. Peltier/Ms. Thrasher’s classes took turns leading our school fundraising leaderboard, with each class raising well over double the class fundraising goal.

Congratulations to our top fundraising classes:

🥇 Ms. Hulton’s class – $1,838
🥈 Ms. Jamieson/Ms. Groenwegen’s class – $929
🥉 Ms. Peltier/Ms. Thrasher’s class – $744

Thank you to our entire school community for coming together to make this year’s Terry Fox event such a tremendous success. Your generosity, enthusiasm, and support have made a meaningful difference in the fight against cancer.

Our school’s online fundraising page will remain active into the New Year. If you haven't yet had an opportunity to donate or share our fundraising link, you can still contribute here:

Volunteering at LPS

We are grateful for the support of our many volunteers who help make our school community a great place for students to learn and grow.

If you plan to volunteer at our LPS this year, please ensure that your Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)/Criminal Police Information Check (CPIC) has been completed within six months of the date you begin volunteering.

As part of a new Limestone District School Board process, volunteers must obtain a current school letter to include with their VSC/CPIC application. South Frontenac OPP now process checks online. Please contact the school office by phone (613 376-3848) or email (lough@limestone.on.ca), and we will gladly provide you with the required LDSB volunteer letter to submit with your application.

Once you have received your police record check, it can be submitted to the school office or downloaded to the LDSB Police Record Check Portal.

After an initial VSC/CPIC (completed within the previous six months) has been approved, a new police record check is required every three years. In the years between renewals, volunteers must complete and submit an Annual Offence Declaration Form.

Please note that fees for police record checks may vary, and some volunteers may be charged by the police service while others may not.

Thank you for your interest in supporting our students and school community. We truly appreciate the time and commitment of our volunteers.

Early or End of Day Pick-Up

If you need to pick up your child(ren) during the school day, we kindly ask that you notify your child(ren)'s teacher before the start of the school day whenever possible. If you cannot notify your child(ren)'s teacher before the start of the school day, please email your child(ren)'s teacher during the day. Providing advance notice helps minimize interruptions and distractions to classroom learning.

For pick-ups between 3:10 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., please ensure that either your child(ren)'s teacher or the school office is informed before 3:10 p.m. Due to end-of-day routines and dismissal preparations, it can be challenging to communicate last-minute changes to classroom teachers during this time.

Thank you for your cooperation and support in helping us maintain a productive learning environment for everyone.
