YXU Basketball Sessions

In January, we are going to have the unique opportunity to welcome a professional athlete into our school to offer a basketball workshop for our junior and intermediate classes. Connor Vreeken is a professional basketball player who was born and raised in Kingston (graduating from Frontenac Secondary School in 2018). His basketball career includes playing on both Team Canada and Team Ontario, winning 4 USports National Championships with the Carleton Ravens, and most recently, a CEBL championship with the Niagara River Lions this past summer in Canada’s top professional basketball league.

During his workshop, he will be sharing his lived experience as an athlete from Kingston who had aspirations of pursuing his passion at a higher level. Using examples from his own basketball journey, he will talk with our students about the importance of goal setting, perseverance, dealing with failure, self-belief, and many other valuable life skills. In addition to sharing his story and experiences, he will be leading a basketball workshop with our grade 4-8 classes!

In January 2026, Connor will be running basketball skill development sessions at Loughborough on Monday nights for any athletes interested in improving their skills!

Aside from his professional playing career, Connor is also the Director of YXU Basketball - a basketball skill development business in Kingston. He offers basketball development sessions for youth athletes who may be interested in trying basketball for their first time or are gearing up for the start of their elementary school season. Connor’s philosophy is that every athlete needs a ball in their hands the entire time they are in the gym to truly have the opportunity to improve their skills. In Connor’s program, your child will be taught the essential skills needed to have success on the court and will be given the opportunity to learn at their own pace while applying the skills in a controlled manner for maximal retention. Many leagues offer the opportunity to play, but few ensure that your child has the ball in their hands when it matters the most.

If you would like more information or to register, please follow the link below or contact Connor via email at info@yxubasketball.com.

The first 4 registrants who use code: “LPS25” will receive $25 off the program! https://yxubasketball.com/pages/2026-winter-skill-clinics/2026-winter-skill-clinics-qmq6tibz

LPS Talize Fundraiser

We are excited to announce a new fundraiser happening from now until the end of May 2026! We have partnered with Talize Kingston to raise money for student activities. For those who are not familiar with Talize, they are a Canadian-owned and operated for-profit thrift retailer with an outlet in Kingston's West End (near Reid's Dairy).

How do we make money? Talize weighs donations that are made in support of LPS and will give us 20 cents per pound of clothing and housewares, and 10 cents per pound of media (books, CDs etc.). Donations must be given to an attendant at the donation centre during open hours (around the right side of the building) and you must mention that it is in support of Loughborough Public School's fundraiser.

See the flyers below for more information, including what items are accepted and what are not.
