LPS Holiday Happenings

On Friday, December 5th, our Lions will be participating in our annual Jingle Bell Walk.  This is an opportunity for our Lions to spread holiday cheer while we deliver our class donations to the food bank.  Parents and guardians of students in Kindergarten to Grade 4 are welcome to join their child(ren) on the walk.  Families of students in Kindergarten to Grade 4 are encouraged to reach out to your child(ren)’s teacher, if you are unsure of your child(ren)’s scheduled Jingle Bell Walk.

On Thursday, December 11th, our Challenge Band will be performing a holiday concert with the Sydenham High School band from 6:30 to 8:00.  The concert will take place in the SHS gym and families and friends are welcome to join the presentation. 

Parents and guardians of students in Ms. Beers’ class, Ms. Palmer’s class and Mr. Miller, Ms. Kanellos and Ms. Teepell’s class are invited on Tuesday, December 16th from 5:30 to 6:30 for a holiday performance.

We are also very excited to present our performance of The Grinch.  The production, which is completely student led and directed, features cast members in Grades 3 to 6.   Our Lions have been working hard learning their roles and we look forward to an amazing production.

Performances showtimes are:

Friday, December 12th for Kindergarten students

Monday, December 15th for Grade 1 to Grade 4 students

Monday, December 15th from 6:00 to 7:00 for parents and guardians

* A canteen will be available for this performance

Wednesday, December 17th from 11:30 to 12:30 for Grades 5 to 8 students and parents and guardians

More information regarding the presentation will be shared in the near future.

 During the week of December 15th to December 19th, our Lions are encouraged to show their school spirit during our Holiday Spirit Week. 

Monday, December 15th Show off your holiday best by wearing holiday BLING and accessories (socks, jewellery, etc)! 

Tuesday, December 16th Wear your antlers, elf hat etc. Any kind of holiday headwear. 

Wednesday, December 17th Celebrate the colours of the season be wearing Red, Green and White!

Thursday, December 18th  Get decked out in your hippest or ugliest holiday sweater or shirt.

Friday, December 19th Prepare for a perfect break in your comfiest PJs.


Loughborough Spirit Wear

A reminder that our LPS Spirit Wear store closes on Monday, December 1. To place an order, please visit https://www.spiritwearcanada.ca/lps/shop/home.

Parents should make a note on the order form, if you wish to give the clothing as a gift. Parents will then be called directly to pick up. Please also include your phone number. If it is not indicated, orders will be sent home with students.

LPS Food Drive

Once again, this year, our school will be collecting items for our local food bank! From November 24th to December 5th, we will be collecting items. Each class will have a food/item focus to help ensure that a variety of needs are met. Then, on December 5th, the day of our Jingle Bell Walk, our school community will walk the items up to the Grace United Centre to help make the community connection!

Sydenham High School Presentation of Murder By The Book

SHS students have been working hard on a hilarious new murder mystery comedy directed by teachers Janice Keene and Tyler Elliott. Families are welcome to join them for this hilarious and heartwarming show! Performances are December 3rd to 5th from 7:00 - 8:30pm in the Drama Room. Tickets are $10.00 and can be purchased by calling the school at 613 376-3612 (press 0 to reach the main office). Seats are limited, so act soon! The show is suitable for ages 12 and up and there will not be an intermission. A canteen will be available before the show.

LDSB Choices at Seven Programs

The Limestone District School Board's Choices at 7 programs offer opportunities for students entering Grade 7 to participate in a variety of unique learning environments. Depending on the availability of places in the programs, students currently in Grade 7 may also apply to join a program for their Grade 8 year. The Choices at 7 Programs that are offered include: 

  • ATLAS (Applying Technology for Learning, Aptitude and Success) 
  • Challenge (Gifted and Academic Enrichment Program) 
  • LEAP (Limestone Education through the Arts Program) 
  • Extended French Immersion  

Due to the limited number of spaces in LEAP, Atlas and Challenge, not all applicants will be offered placements. Please be aware that transportation to and from Choices at 7 Programs, is the responsibility of the Applicant families.  You are welcome to apply for Triboard Bus transportation.  Please know if transportation is approved, arrival and departure times may impact instructional time.  Please make transportation decisions that work best for your family.

Applications will open at 9:00 a.m. on December 12, 2025, and close at 4:00 p.m. on January 12, 2026.

The application links for Extended French Immersion will open at 9:00 a.m. on December 12, 2025, and applicants are encouraged to submit their application as soon as possible. The application link for Extended French Immersion will remain open throughout the school year.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to attend the Information Nights hosted by each Choices at 7 school to find out more about each program. Please check back for details about the Extended French Immersion Information Nights at Module de L’Acadie, Harrowsmith PS, and Module Vanier.

Piano Lessons at LPS

Carolyn Schaub, who has been teaching piano at LPS and in the region since 2006, will be offering piano lessons at LPS again this year during the school day. Her goal is to instill the love of making music. Her teaching philosophy and the curricula she uses, can be found at www.carolynscreative.com.  The cost is $27.25 per lesson or $98.10 per month for the school year.  To reserve a piano spot or ask questions please emailcmschaub@sympatico.ca or call (613)376-6207.

Hot Lunch

Loughborough PS offers the option to order hot lunch 3 days a week. New this year, we will have pizza on Tuesdays from Mike’s Pizza, right here in Sydenham. Wednesdays will be Subway and Thursdays will be Gino’s Chicken Fingers & Fries.  Orders are due the Sunday prior to the week, at midnight.  Lunch orders will begin the week of September 15th.  Place your order at https://www.school-day.com


Late or Cancelled Buses

At times, our school buses are cancelled or late to pick up students in the morning or late to school to pick up students at the end of the day. If your child’s bus is late, please visit www.triboard.ca and click on Delays and Cancellations to check on the status of your child’s bus. As well, you can download the BusPlanner Delays app on your phone. Once you have downloaded the app, you can register to receive bus updates for Loughborough Public School. Once you are registered, you will receive notifications regarding your child(ren)'s bus status if they are delayed or cancelled.
