Loughborough Public School Open House
We are very excited to welcome our Loughborough community to our LPS Open House. This will be an opportunity to meet your child(ren)'s teacher(s) and to learn about the focus of your child(ren)'s classroom. The Open House will be held on Wednesday, September 30 from 5:00 to 6:00
Concussion Awareness Week
Concussion Awareness Week runs from September 27 to October 3, 2026. This annual Canadian initiative focuses on protecting brain health through education, prevention, quick recognition, and proper recovery management. On Wednesday, September 30, we will recognize Rowan's Law Day.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation-Orange Shirt Day
On Wednesday, September 30, our Loughborough Lions will recognize Orange Shirt Day. Orange Shirt Day is a day to take action towards Truth and Reconciliation and to honour residential school survivors and their families. It is also a day to remember and honour those Indigenous students who did not return from residential schools.
We encourage all students to wear an orange shirt on Wednesday. As a school, we will be recognizing the importance of the day and learning more about the impact of the residential school system on Indigenous communities through our morning announcements, class discussions and activities.
Loughborough School Picture Day
Tuesday, September 29 is our Loughborough School Picture Day. All our Lions are encouraged to show up with their biggest smiles! Only individual photos will be taken at this time. Class photos and retakes will be on Tuesday, October 6.
Learning Disabilities Awareness Month
Learning Disabilities Awareness Month is recognized every year in October. The Learning Disabilities Associations of Ontario is raising awareness to reduce stigma in order to allow people of all ages to get the services and supports they need to reach their potential.
Cyber Awareness Month
October is Cyber Awareness Month, an opportunity to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and habits students need to participate safely, securely, and responsibly in digital spaces.
Throughout the month of October, educators will use different themes to spark classroom conversations about cyber safety, digital literacy, media literacy, and AI literacy.
Early or End of Day Pick-Up
If you need to pick up your child(ren) during the school day, we kindly ask that you notify your child(ren)'s teacher before the start of the school day whenever possible. If you cannot notify your child(ren)'s teacher before the start of the school day, please email your child(ren)'s teacher during the day. Providing advance notice helps minimize interruptions and distractions to classroom learning.
For pick-ups between 3:10 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., please ensure that either your child(ren)'s teacher or the school office is informed before 3:10 p.m. Due to end-of-day routines and dismissal preparations, it can be challenging to communicate last-minute changes to classroom teachers during this time.

2026 Terry Fox School Run
LPS is getting ready for the 46th Anniversary Terry Fox School on Friday October 2nd at approximately 12:40pm on the yard! Preceding the run, we will kick off our event with a school-wide assembly in the gym. We’re super excited to take part in this annual tradition that supports cancer research while building school spirit.
Thank you to our school community for supporting Terry’s dream. With just one week to go in our fundraising campaign, we are just over $100 away from meeting this year’s goal. We have a friendly competition going between classes for which class can raise the most. Updates to our fundraising meter and classroom leaderboard can be found outside of the main office and on our online donation page.
Two ways to donate:
• By bringing in a “toonie” for Terry ($2) – or any spare change to deposit in your class’s “jug” envelope.
• By sharing LPS’s or Homeroom online fundraising page with friends and family (https://schools.terryfox.ca/LoughboroughPSSydenham)
Thank you to everyone who ordered a limited edition 46th anniversary Terry Fox Run t-shirt. Orders were sent home on Friday September 25th. Don’t forget to wear your new shirt on our run day! If you didn’t order a shirt, you can still show your school spirit by wearing school clothing, colours (blue and yellow) or a previous year’s Terry Fox Run t-shirt. Let’s “Finish it!” Loughborough!
LPS Talize Fundraiser
Are you cleaning out your closets? Great news! LPS has partnered with TALIZE Kingston to fundraise for student activities. Our fundraiser is ONGOING!! Which means you can donate items to TALIZE throughout the entire school year. Spread the word! Check out the attached posters for more details and for what is and is not accepted.
When you donate in person, don't forget to give your items to a staff member at the donation centre AND let them know that it is for the "Loughborough fundraiser".

I’m Stephanie Leonard, and I’m excited to be starting my 6th year on SAC and my 3rd year as Chair. I’m lucky to be working alongside a wonderful group of volunteers who are passionate about supporting our students, staff, and school community.

Piano Lessons at LPS
Carolyn Schaub, teaching piano at LPS and in the region since 2006 will be offering piano lessons at LPS again this year during the school day. Her goal is to instill the love of making music and her teaching philosophy and curricula she uses can be found at www.carolynscreative.com. The cost is $28.50 per lesson or $102.60 per month for 36 half hour lessons during the school year. To reserve a piano spot or ask questions, please email cmschaub@sympatico.ca or call (613)376-6207.
Hot Lunch
Loughborough PS offers the option to order hot lunch 3 days a week. This year, we will have pizza on Tuesdays from Mike’s Pizza. Wednesdays will be subs from Subway and macaroni and cheese from Mike's Pizza, and Thursdays will be Gino’s chicken fingers & fries. Orders are due on the Sunday, prior to the week, at midnight. Lunch orders will begin the week of September 13th. Place your order at https://www.school-day.com. Reminder to all our Lions, hot lunch orders for this week, are due by tonight at midnight.
Late or Cancelled Buses
At times, our school buses are late to pick-up students in the morning or are late getting to school to pick up students at the end of the day. If your child’s bus is late, please visit www.triboard.ca and click on Delays and Cancellations to check on the status of your child’s bus.
