Terry Fox Run

Terry Fox statue ...

This year marks a major milestone in Canadian history. Forty-five years ago, Terry Fox set out on his Marathon of Hope, inspiring a nation and launching a movement that continues to grow. Let’s honour his legacy by making this our biggest year yet!

Loughborough Public School's 2025 Terry Fox School Run fundraising goal is $5,190; which is $1 more than last year! There are three ways you can help:

• By bringing in a “toonie” for Terry ($2)

• By sharing LPS’ or Homeroom online fundraising page with friends and family (https://schools.terryfox.ca/LoughboroughPSSydenham

• By ordering a Limited Edition 45th Anniversary Terry Fox Run T-shirt through your School-Day.com account under ‘products’. Orders are due by Sunday September 14th. (Youth sizes: $25, Adult sizes: $30 +School Day Fee).

We are still in the planning process, so please watch out for t-shirt order forms in your School-Day account and Homeroom fundraising pages during the first week of September. Our School Run will be at the beginning of October. More information to come!

Loughborough Public School Open House

We are very excited to welcome our Loughborough community to our LPS Open House. This will be an opportunity to meet your child(ren)'s teacher(s) and to learn about the focus of your child(ren)'s classroom. The Open House will be held on Thursday, September 25 from 5:00 to 6:00.

News from our Loughborough School Council

On behalf of the LPS School Advisory Council (SAC) welcome to another great year at LPS. As we head into another school year, we will hold our first School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting on Tuesday, September 16th at 6:00 pm in the library at Loughborough. SAC is a great opportunity to get more involved in the LPS school community.

Our School Council meets six times a year and focuses on information sharing and how to improve student opportunities through fundraising. At each meeting, school administration provides an update on school-related activities and council members may identify topics of interest for discussion at future meetings.

During our September meeting, we will elect a new council for the 2025/2026 school year. Positions up for election include:

President

Vice president

Treasurer

Secretary

Indigenous family representative

Fundraising

Communications & Social Media

Parent involvement committee representative (associated with the Limestone District School Board)

Descriptions of these roles will be posted to the SAC’s Facebook page before the meeting. You do not have to take on a board role to come to meetings, everyone is welcome.

Also, if you’re new to LPS and want to stay connected to the school, please consider following our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/share/g/kDeAgWTuQrhktzcY/?mibextid=K35XfP

Hot Lunch

Loughborough PS offers the option to order hot lunch 3 days a week. New this year, we will have pizza on Tuesdays from Mike’s Pizza, right here in Sydenham. Wednesdays will be Subway and Thursdays will be Gino’s Chicken Fingers & Fries.  Orders are due the Sunday prior to the week, at midnight.  Lunch orders will begin the week of September 15th.  Place your order at https://www.school-day.com

Late or Cancelled Buses

At times, our school buses are late to pick up students in the morning or are late getting to school to pick up students at the end of the day. If your child’s bus is late, please visit www.triboard.ca and click on Delays and Cancellations to check on the status of your child’s bus.

Threat/Risk Assessment Notification Process

The Limestone District School Board and community partners are committed to making our schools safe for students and staff. As a result, schools will respond to all student behaviours that pose a potential risk to other students, staff, and members of the community. The Community Violence Threat Risk Assessment Process is designed to be proactive in developing intervention plans that address the emotional and physical safety of those involved. A Threat/Risk Assessment is initiated by the school administration or community partners when behaviours have been identified by staff or students that pose a potential risk to self and/or others. Please note: it is important for all parties to support the Violence Threat Risk Assessment Process. However, if for some reason there is a reluctance to participate in the process, by the student of concern or parent/guardian, the threat assessment process will continue in order to ensure a safe and caring environment for all. Families are asked to review the steps of a Threat/Risk Assessment online at http://bit.ly/LDSBthreatassessment.
