Grade 7 and 8 Summer Literacy Program at LPS
Posted on 06/11/2018

The Limestone District School Board is excited to offer Summer Literacy Camps for students in Grades 7-8 who would benefit from additional support in reading and writing. Camps run at six different locations including Loughborough Public School.

This year, we will explore the following questions:

  • What makes an event “newsworthy”?
  • How does what I read influence how I read?
  • How do effective writers hook and hold their audience?

Students will be taught in small groups by engaging and skilled instructors and tutors.
Days will include close reading and writing instruction, number talks, and daily physical education. Students will practice literacy skills that are important for success, not only in life, but as students look towards high school.

High-school credit (.5 credit of GLS) is available upon successful completion of the camp.

The program is free for students in Grades 7 & 8. Students are asked to bring their lunch and are responsible for their own transportation.

The program is being offered Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. from July 3-20 at Loughborough P.S.

Students are referred to the camp by their teacher or a literacy tutor.
