Letter to Families Concerning School Organization

September 11, 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians:

The next few days will be a very busy time in the junior and intermediate divisions of our school.  This letter is to inform you about some changes that will be taking place, why these changes are occurring and what we have planned to make everything as positive as possible.

Each spring, all elementary schools in Limestone District School Board allocate teaching staff for the following year based on the number of students expected to attend in the fall.  If the number of students changes significantly, teaching staff has to be rearranged or adjusted.  This “reorganization” can result in losing a class, rearranging the existing classes or gaining a class.

This fall, we are very excited to report that our numbers have increased in specific grade levels to the point that we requested and have been approved for an additional teacher; this means an additional class will be added to the junior division of the school.  The addition of a class means that many classes will have fewer numbers of students than are currently in our classes.

Although, overall, this is very positive news for our students and our school, we realize that there will be added stress for some as it will be necessary for some students to move from their current class into a new class.  Be assured, that none of the decisions to move students will be made without careful consideration from staff.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to confirm the final organization until later this week; however, we did not want to wait to let you know that this reorganization is taking place in hopes that you can begin to prepare your child/children for the possibility of changing classes.  To help with this effort, Mrs. Revell and I will visit all affected classes individually and explain what reorganization means and how they could be impacted.  Other than our visit, Friday will proceed as a normal day for students.  Should your child be moving classes, Mrs. Revell or myself will inform you with a phone call on Thursday or Friday of this week.  Our actual start date for the new class will be Monday, September 17th.

We understand that this is not an ideal situation and we wish children did not have to go through this change, however, it is a reality for many schools every September.  We are fortunate that the reality of our reorganization results in a greater number of classes and an additional teacher to serve our students.

Please know how much we appreciate your support through this process.  We are doing everything we can to make this as stress-free and positive for our students and to ensure they continue to have a great school year.
